It is tetraploid throughout its range (Peirson et al. 2012). The species was treated as Solidago simplex var. ontarioensis (Ringius) Ringius by Semple & Cook (2006 FNA). Weboccurs only in Manitoba and Ontario, where the subnational ranks are Imperilled (S2) and Vulnerable (S3), respectively (NatureServe 2011).
