Then when you are cutting make the inside corners long and snap them into place. I usually don't use a scarf joint with MDF because of shrinkage. I use a butt joint with a biscuit and cut the molding long (about 1/8") so that it snaps into place.

The reason to scarf joint is to enable long grain to long grain surfaces because the end grain of wood is porous and the joint in wood will fail. When scarfing wood joints, I go with a 30 degree miter. I butt joint mdf with 2P-10 and flex them in under light pressure.
